More than 20 years ago, the Northern Alberta Boston Pizza franchisees recognized a need to give back to the charities and organizations in their communities in a collaborative and meaningful way. In 1993, they came together to host the first annual Boston Pizza Charity Golf Classic. It was held at the Ranch Golf Club in support of the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Alberta & NWT. 

Today, the Boston Pizza Charity Golf Classic is an exciting and much anticipated annual event, held at the beautiful and prestigious Blackhawk Golf Course since 2004.

 

Since its inception, the Boston Pizza Charity Golf Classic has raised over $4 million dollars for these well-deserving Northern Alberta charities and organizations:

  • Heart & Stroke Foundation, Alberta & NWT

  • Kids Help Phone

  • Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute

  • Lois Hole Hospital Foundation for Women

  • Alberta Cancer Foundation

  • Youth Empowerment & Support Services

  • Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern Alberta

  • Edmonton Minor Hockey Association

  • Ben Stelter Foundation

2020: The Year that Wasn’t

The following message was shared with our community on April 30, 2020, cancelling the 28th annual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dear Golfers, Sponsors and all friends of the Boston Pizza Charity Golf Classic,

It is with a willing but heavy heart we send this message to you today.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Government of Alberta’s public health order’s restricting mass gatherings; we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 28th annual Boston Pizza Charity Golf Classic, which was to be held in September 2020.

Over the past twenty-seven years, the Boston Pizza Charity Golf Classic has had the honour of supporting incredibly deserving charities right here in Alberta. Together, we have raised over $3.1 million for the Alberta Cancer Foundation, Youth Empowerment & Support Services, Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta, Dreams Take Flight Edmonton, Edmonton Minor Hockey Association, Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, the Lois Hole Hospital for Women and so many more. We can all be honoured and proud that we have achieved our commitment to give back to our communities in a meaningful and significant manner.

Our goal for this year’s event was to continue to fulfil our commitment to the Investigator-Initiated Immunotherapy Research Trials at the Cross Cancer Institute. With the support of the Alberta Boston Pizza Franchisees, we have been able to donate $50,000 so far this year. We are committed to continuing our support in raising much needed funds for our charities and look forward to hosting you at Blackhawk Golf Course in Edmonton for the 29th annual Boston Pizza Charity Golf Classic on Thursday September 9, 2021.
